Doing the work together- approaches I often use

Individualized Eclectic Therapy

The story of our lives holds great significance. When we systematically explore our experiences with a trusted professional, we can achieve moments of insight and clarity. My eclectic approach means I adapt my methods to suit your unique needs, drawing from a range of techniques I've been trained in. Narrative therapy, a common foundation in clinical social work, often helps us introduce new perspectives, enabling you to view your situation from a fresh angle. This is the core of my work and from there I expand into whichever approach best suits your circumstances. Below is a description of some of the modalities I have done training in and use most often with my clients-

Skills training (DBT)

This is one way that we can learn to get out of crisis, manage our emotions, and step outside of the cycles that end in regret or frustration. Dialectical behavioral therapy has been proven effective for helping people to stabilize their intense emotions and work towards feeling that they have a life worth living.

Parts work (Internal family systems informed)

Sometimes we come to a point where we need to turn within to understand what’s going on inside that can create an internal conflict, or choices we make that we don’t really understand. Understanding and learning to work with various parts of our Self can help us to unburden the most difficult of traumas, thoughts, memories, and behaviors.

Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy

An educational series of sessions where we learn and practice a new way of thinking as well an engaging in a mindfulness practice that can help us to learn to pause and be curious about our world. This is powerful and effective work for someone who wants to work on focus, intrusive thoughts, self judgement, shame, impulsivity, and other types of struggles.

Sensorimotor Psychotherapy

The body truly does hold the score. Sometimes we hold experiences in our body that may separate us from feeling our emotions or fully experiencing life. Sometimes memories cannot be described in words. Sometimes our body is trying to tell us what it needs, but we have not been taught how to connect or listen to its language. This is an approach that helps us to.

Expressive Arts Integration

I work to meet my clients where they are. For some that means they are “bottom up” processors. This means we tak ein information from our sensory experiences first, and need this acknowledgment before we can fully integrate new information or experiences with our logical mind. In those with trauma, a disconnect from their emotions, highly intellectual people, and those with neurodivergence we often lose so much of our experiences by not intentionally engaging with our imaginative sensory based side. This integration is important for a complete treatment.

Accelerated Resolution Therapy

Many people have heard of EMDR, but its not the only game in town! ART is also a bilateral eye stimulation based trauma processing approach but it is significantly faster and more thorough for those who seek this therapy. You can process a compulsive thought, troubling memory, trauma related sensation, or shame filled memory in 1 session that would normally take months or years in typical therapy. To compare to EMDR- EMDR will be 6 sessions at minimum where ART can find resolution to most concerns in 1 or 2 sessions. Up to 6 sessions are suggested for those with complex lifelong or recurrent long term traumas to process. This is effective for OCD, substance abuse, trauma, shameful beliefs, compulsive thoughts/behaviors, obsessions, and more. It is also effective for a wider range of concerns and helps with the trauma stored in your body. Longer sessions are required and this is only a cash pay service and for established insurance clients. Insurance does not pay for the session length, which is a shame because it likely prevents years of 50 minute sessions!!

We heal in connection with others.
